SYSTEM OF A DOWN Singer Working On Musical
May 22, 2008The Pulse of Radio reports that SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian is collaborating with playwright Steven Sater on a musical called "Prometheus Bound", according to Spinner.com. Tankian has already finished eight songs for the show, which is based on the classic Greek tragedy. The Tony Award-winning Sater, who worked with musician Duncan Sheik on the Broadway hit "Spring Awakening", said about the new show, "It's got this amazing ancient Greek verse thing going on with this cool electronic hyperspace rock. It's unlike anything you've heard."
Sater said that the show will probably open in Boston first before a New York production is attempted, with an album also in the works.
The playwright added that he thinks the show could bring an entirely different audience to see a musical, explaining, "I just saw (Tankian) in concert, that audience was amazing...I think it will open up really different things for both of us. It's a really exciting collaboration."
Tankian has been touring in support of his first solo album, 2007's "Elect the Dead". He will perform at the single-day Ozzfest with OZZY OSBOURNE and METALLICA on August 9 in Dallas.
